- THE INTERNATIONAL PATTERN & ITS ANOMALIES -

-35-

After the "C" we come to the "D". In Dutch Germany is called "Duitsland". Our collection of nonstandard decks, that were made in Germany, consists of 7 albums containing over 350 decks. So one would expect that a significant contribution to this xpo would come from those. But no such thing! Here below is the only deck that suits this xpo.

The Germans still use their own, sometimes regional, patterns. The international pattern is known and produced, but hardly used in Germany itself. So there are a lot of "anomalies" to be found, but these are all based on the different local German patterns.

This deck is not even a regular sized deck, but one that was made for children. The cards measure 32 x 45 mm. So to show better detail we have blown up the scans a bit. The center design makes the pattern instantly recognizable, but otherwise it's a mess. The suicide king is now in the Spades suit, the attributes have been randomly placed, replaced or misplaced, and the Ace of Spades is just as plain as the other aces.
