We spotted the deck on the German Ebay and the shown cards looked familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. When we received the deck, we immediately saw why. The cards are made of thick carton and the top layer is a photo. In this case the photo's were taken of a vintage French deck from the late1950's. We have that deck, but had never seen a b/w version of it. And now we know why: it's a home made deck. Someone must have taken the trouble of photographing all the cards from the French deck and has developed them himself in the darkroom. Then he has pasted them on the carton and cut them out one by one, rounding the corners. The cards have small differences in size. The quality is not very consistent. Some are a little darker than others, sometimes only partially.
The fact that the deck was homemade, could point towards an East German origin. Pin-up decks from the West weren't available there and could have led to this home work. But however sloppy......... it's a unique deck!
The deck consists of 32 cards. A box was probably never made for it.
