PIN-UP'S & EROTICA
-51-
This version of the Déesses deck by Philibert is the
third one and probably dates from around 1960. It has the same rectangular
pictures on the cards as the second version, but here a golden oval line was placed
behind each picture. The indices are in French and English. The names of the
goddesses are printed in gold. The deck was
probably printed by Boéchat & Frères, which firm did the printing for many
other Philibert decks too.
The typical Philibert lay-out of the card is
easily recognizable. They had a -for those days- very creative designer or
design team and here the depth is suggested by the models, who surpass the
borders of the rectangular cut background, and the large suit symbols, which are
partially visible behind the rectangular background picture. The indices and
suit symbols are printed over the golden oval line, thus creating 4 layers in
the design. This suggestion of depth by creating layers in the design is seen in
many of the Philibert pin-up decks.
