PIN-UP'S & EROTICA

We bought this deck in Germany, not because we're particularly fond of big boobs, but because we liked the artwork. That's the reason why we googled the artist's name. When we found his website, we asked the artist about this deck. It's a pity that we haven't had an answer yet. But as there's no deck of cards advertised on his website and because the deck was printed on flimsy, see-through, card, we suspect that this is a rogue edition, probably made in some Eastern-European country. According to the box it was produced and copyrighted by Alex MAK Productions, but the only companies, that Google came up with, don't seem to have anything to do with this publication, judging by the nature of their business. |

When we
visited the website of Victor Rinaldi (see http://rinaldi-art.com)
it only took a glance to find most of the original artwork which was
used for this deck. Some of them have been -probably digitally- slightly
altered; a background colour was turned into white or a text has been
removed, as illustrated here. Victor Rinaldi wouldn't be the first
artist, whose artwork is illegally used to make a rogue deck: see page 9
in this xpo. At least Don Henderson was already aware of the existence
of such a deck. We copied one of Victor's artworks to illustrate here
how easy it is to copy artwork, found on the internet, and use it to create and
publish a deck. So....artists BEWARE! |
On the WWPCM site we found that the MAK is indeed a Russian publisher, a certain Bashkorstan, who has published a good number of decks between 2005 and 2010. He published decks with artwork from many different (pin-up) artists, such as Alberto Vargas, Giovanna Casotto, Hajime Soroyama or Aslan and we doubt that any copyrights were ever paid for that. The Rinaldi deck was published in 2006 and we hope to hear from the artist about the copyrights for this deck. Although we still have great doubts about it, maybe we're wrong and all copyrights have been paid for the Rinaldi deck. But we hope that we will receive an answer from Victor Rinaldi, which will clarify the existence of this deck for us....... or for him!
We'll keep you posted, but for now........ENJOY!

The deck consists of 52 cards, 2 jokers and an extra card.

The box shows a dubious layout and use of type font as well. Its front and back bear great resemblance with the popular editions by LoScarabeo from Italy, which are sold in many countries. |
