PIN-UP'S & EROTICA

-47-

A friend who had visited Peru brought us this deck. It was published in Peru as "Erotic Cards" or "Casinos Eróticos". The presence of the English title on the box could indicate that it was published as a souvenir deck. The deck was probably printed in Peru too, judging by the quality of the card and cutting.

Each of the cards shows a piece of Peruvian pottery, but a rather special type. Most of the cards show a so-called huaco, an earthen vessel or fine pottery made by the indigenous people in the pre-Columbian period. Each of these items has an erotic scene. One of the indigenous civilizations in Peru were the Moche's, who ruled from c200 BC - c600 AD. During these 800 years they created erotic pottery and although the Spanish conquestadores have tried  to destroy them, when they conquested Peru in the 1570's, a lot of them have been preserved and most of them are in the collection of the Larco Museum in Lima. It's very well possible that all the objects in this deck are from the Larco Museum's collection. Although this museum isn't mentioned anywhere, there are two extra cards with the deck that show a part of the city of Lima, in which the museum could be located.

The deck consists of 52 cards, 2 joker and 2 extra cards.

On the box as well as on the backs "Fenno Peru" is printed. Fenno is probably a name, as the word isn't known in Spanish.
