The minutely painted fantasy world of Con van Velsen belongs to the finest achievements of present-day realism in the Netherlands. Van Velsen clearly enjoys hiding the smallest of details in his paintings. Even finding his signature is a recurring puzzle. After a long search, one finally discerns the name 'Con van Velsen' in letters of a few tenths of millimeters somewhere on a free-laying plank or on a leather belt.
